Dr. Marcelle Wilson, Site Manager

Dr. Marcelle Wilson received her Ph.D. from West Virginia University in 2003. She joined the museum staff in 2014 and teaches at YSU in History, Women's Studies, and Curation. She oversees graduate assistant interns at the museum as well as students and volunteers. Recent focus of educational programs include women in the mill, programs for people with memory loss and dementia, and activities for people with ASD.

Dr. Thomas Leary, Director of YSU Applied History Certificate Program (Department of Humanities and Social Sciences)

Professor Thomas Leary is Director of the Applied History Certificate Program at YSU. Formerly a museum curator and historical consultant, he has collaborated on numerous studies involving the preservation and interpretation of sites related to the steel industry. Students in his classes have helped catalogue collections and create temporary exhibits at YHCIL as part of the Youngstown State / Ohio History Connection joint management agreement.

Martha Bishop, Archives Library Assistant

Martha Bishop is the archives/library assistant at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor. She is a graduate of Youngstown State University.

Susan Lowery, Archives Assistant and Customer Service Specialist

Susan Lowery received her Masters of History with a Certificate in Applied History from Youngstown State University in 2020. She began working at the museum in the fall of 2021, assisting and training in archives and with collection management.

Dr. John Liana, Assistant Curator

Dr. John Liana is the Assistant Curator at YHCIL and is an English instructor at YSU. He assists Dr. Leary and Martha Bishop in the archives with collections management, research, and inquiries. He manages our blue print collection (cataloging and storage), and acts as a liaison between the museum and various donors and organizations in the community. He leads exhibit tours, creates exhibits as well as consults on exhibit design, which includes creation of text, editing, and visual content for the museum. He works directly with Dr. Leary on student exhibit projects throughout the academic year.
