Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor

Sidney Rackoff (1919-2014) created these sculptures in the 1990s, titled "Coal Miner, Steel Worker, and Home from the War" are over nine feet tall, constructed of scrap metal and represent themes from Sidney Rackoff's life experiences.

Celebrate Black History- Visit the Steel Museum and view the 2024 Ohio Academy of History Public History Award winning “Discovering Black Youngstown”!

Dr. Donna M. DeBlasio, Professor Emerita of History along with her students developed an exhibit as a class project for History 6956, Museum Curation and Interpretation at Youngstown State University. The students conducted research, sought out graphics and objects, wrote the exhibit script, and installed the final product. The exhibit opened in February 2023 at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor (YHCIL), a site of the Ohio History Connection and operated by Youngstown State University’s History Program. It will remain up until May 2025.
